SHREDDING with Dr. Ian Smith

SHRED Jacket Final 9.7.12            Weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint.  Anyone who says that it is “easy” to lose weight has either not tried to lose weight or are not being honest about the intensity of the struggle.  But just because weight loss requires effort, focus, and dedication, it doesn’t mean that one can’t be successful in this journey.  Weight loss is very achievable and extremely impactful on the quality and length of your life.

Many people are unsuccessful with weight loss simply because their approach is not right and their goals are unrealistic.  For example, thinking that you can lose weight and keep it off without having some level of regular physical activity is nonsense.  It doesn’t mean you have to go to a gym and work out until you can’t walk, but it does mean that you need to move on a regular basis.  Zumba, playing a sport, fast walking, jumping rope, walking up and downstairs, there are plenty of movement activities you can conduct outside of a gym and still be successful.

Many people take years to gain a particular amount of weight, yet they want to lose that weight in a matter of months.  Being realistic must be at the center of any weight loss program.  My current program, SHRED: The Revolutionary Diet, has resonated with hundreds of thousands of people.  The average weight loss in our test sample of 5,000 people was 20 lbs and/or 4 inches and/or 2 sizes in just six weeks.  While these results are significant, they are also realistic, because the plan calls for eating 4 small to moderate sized meals a day with three snack options.  No gimmicks, nothing extreme, just eating sensibly and moving regularly.  SHRED doesn’t ask you to eat or exercise perfectly; rather it asks you to do better than what you’ve been doing.  The plan consists of regular, inexpensive food that you can purchase at any local grocery store and feed your entire family.

Weight loss success depends on many variables, but your attitude, belief, and focus are paramount.  You have to believe in yourself and in the program first.  Then when you decide to execute the plan, success will certainly come.  Weight loss is 80% mental and 20% physical.  But in order to win the game, you at the very least have to be in it.
